The late Mr AC Nonis

2nd. December 2008

On this day Mr AC Nonis passed away peacefully in Malacca.

We were most fortunate to have had this man as a teacher during our school days in Malacca High School. More than just a class teacher, Mr Nonis was Minto House Master, a Scout Master, Chess Club Master. A most respectable man.

We salute you Mr AC Nonis, Sir!

Farewell and rest in peace.

From your students, Sir!

I still remember on the 1st day of my secondary school in MHS he warned me in no uncertain terms that he will beat the shit out of me if I brought my pranks from the primary school.
He actually put his wedding ring on the knuckles of his middle finger and gave a hard knock on my head.WOW that was painful man!
Nevertheless he turn out to be a GREAT teacher who always had the students at heart and their well being. He was a GREAT scoutmaster too.By the way his dad too gave me a tight slap in primary one for being unruly in lining up to enter the class.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE MR.A.C.NONIS SIR.

Very sorry to hear that.  Although he did not teach my class, I remember him.  I was taught by his father in BHES.  Sorry to hear of his passing.  Please convey my condolences.

With kind regards

Sincerely yours
Palaniappan
Now I remember.  I have met the son, Dr Joel Gabriel and his wife Anna when he was working in Kota Belud in Sabah, probably about 1985 or 1986.  My distant relative was sharing the quarters building with them at that time and we all had dinner if I recall correctly, cooked by Anna! .......Palaniappan

Yes, Mr AC Nonis was a good teacher.  He taught us Math in Form 1A.  He introduced algebra to us in a painless way, he was patient, understanding and not the kind who put fear into his students.  He did punish us when necessary but always well within the acceptable limits. In his own quiet way, he earned all our respect.
