Mr & Mrs Choong Choe Hin gratefully thank all for making the evening a resounding success.
I wish to wholeheartedly thank you all for attending my son's wedding dinner
recently. Though I missed the warm companies of you all, I am equally happy
to note that from Hai Heng's photo gallery I could see you all enjoyed the
night. My other friends told me our "class of '66" were the most noisy and
happy groups. So I guess I may not be wrong to say that you all enjoyed, and
had a good gathering. Once again thank you all for gracing the occassion. I
only wish I could have more time with you all, if only my other duties had
permitted. Anyway, my apology if there was any shortcoming. Lastly, allow me
to single out Peter and Hai Heng for rendering help in getting fellow
classmates to attend the dinner, particularly to Hai Heng for the nice photo
shots you posted in the website; so a big thank you. And a very happy new
year to all of you.

Our potluck jamming party dinner strum up the fire in everyone inspite of the wet rainy Sat. night, inspite of Chelsea losing 2-0 to Liverpool. Our hostess, Yap Ling, added food she prepared to pile up to the varieties of home cooking, tapao from restaurents, cakes and cookies and tidbits, aussie wine, danish beer, local coffee......  Inspite of the the good food and drinks we still could hardly sing in harmony or keep in tune. That could be atributed to the choice of songs. Rowdy and suggestive lyrics was the order of the night. And who do we have to thank for this change of wind direction but the ever youthful 60 years young Kalimuthu. He showed us what fun is all about. "The man with no Balls" and "If I were a Bachelor" made even the red faced beer drinkers blushed.

At Ying Lock's Tiara - Monday 19 Feb 2007

The open house dinner get together at Ying Lock's holiday Tiara residence was a great success, at least in terms of the number of hours spent in one seating. Those who went to dinner at 7.30pm Monday 19 February 2007 and carried on till breakfast at 9.30am Tuesday 20 February 2007 the next day spent a record 14 hours together!

We got to Ying Lock's house at about 11.15pm. When we got there, we were met by Rajagopalan's wife and daughter sitting away from the others in the sitting room.  Chua Chye Lim had already left. The others (for those who can't decipher Ann Mean's abbreviations) at the dinner area were: Rajagopalan, Peter and Diana Chan, Choong Choe Hin, Ronnie Koh (all the way from Paris), Chua Eng Him, Tan Tong Chiew, Leo Ann Mean, Yeoh Chee Weng and the host himself, Chan Ying Lock.

Choe Hin was in his element with all sorts of stories. Tong Chiew often starts his tales with nameless characters but by the end of his slow ranting, the individuals would be named although I don't think most of us (except for Choe Hin) had a clue who those characters were.  As usual, our school experiences were relived, the tales in "Reflections" contained in mhs66 web pages were repeated, Joo Jin's 23 September invitations was being reminded, Chee Weng's Vietnam adventure, .........

Ying Lock had to keep busy playing host to his lesser domesticated and spoilt ex school mates, making coffee and tea, cutting up cakes, washing endless crockeries.  With this behaviour, there won't be any more open house at Ying Lock's. Fortunately Diana helped.

By 7am, we were ready to leave and the discussion shifted to the all important topic of where we should be going for breakfast. We shifted slowly from the dining area to the porch. It was bright then and we could survey the surrounding better. Ying Lock has got himself a very enviable get away home. His house is nicely and simply built, very cosy. His house surrounding is so quiet and peaceful.  He will now be receiving endless requests from outstation friends for accomodation in Malacca. (Ying Lock, you can channel all enquiries to me.  I will charge them a fee that will frighten them all away.)

We finally ended up at the food court, next to the old Kammah Cinema, Bukit Bahru for tim sum breakfast.  Ying Lock did not join us.  I suspect he has some disinfection to do after we leave.  Chye Lim initially did not want to join us but agreed to after Hiong Yien spoke to him.

Not having slept on Monday, the rest of my Tuesday was a wash out.......................................QL

Resident host: CYL (a big thank you)
Guests: PCLO, Mrs CLO, RG, Mrs RG, Ms RG, CCH, RK, CHY, TTC, CCL, CEH, YCW, SQL, LAM
The Pot: satay, curry chicken, mutton, squid, salami, brandy, wine, beer, coffee, tea, etc.
Duration: Except for the RG family, all the rest took advantage of YL's hospitality and stayed till 7.30A.M. Yes, till breakfast time. Speaks volumes. ............................ AM

It  was a nice gathering at a bachelor's hideout. Only thing , the washing and cleaning was in house and the niceties of  just relaxing and letting the ladies do the serving and ensuring everything was OK was missing. Anyway we had a "glorified waiter" in the form of Ronnie Koh direct from Air France and the host as usual busy with the fine dining and wineing. Anyway the gang disbursed at 7.30 a.m., I was told and I may not be able to report anything beyond 12.30 a.m. since I left with my wife and kid!  .........................RG

We met up with Ron for a great dinner at the Pantai Rest. in Damamsara. The place was jam-packed. Dinner came late but we didnt mind or notice.  Sunday Gasing climb was great fun. For four of the eight men team, it was their first experience. JooJin now wants to come back every week. Cheng Suan suggests we now try Taman Negara. Raja is thinking of toughening his futsol team by training on these hills. As for WeeYong, the good old days of Mt Ophir are here again. The hills are truly alive......
ChengSuan and WeeYong has a lot of catching up to do, The last they saw one another was in High School.
Sunday 7.40am, March 25th 2007
Entrance to Gasing Hill Forest Reserve.
Weather: couldn't be better
Seven 59 something buddies prepared to set out to follow old trails on the Selangor side of Gasing Hill. Trail leader CheeWeng gave a last minute prep talk. I could sensed a little apprehension on a couple of faces. JooJin, Raja and ChengSuan were first timer. No one wants to chicken out now.
CheeWeng reset his GPS monitor and we moved out single file.
Walking along beside the stream was child play and it must have relaxed all of us. Hardly 5 mins of easy strolling and we faced the first steep muddy incline. One by one we placed one foot up step #1. And then #2 and the third. Two mins on and no one was counting anymore.
"How many steps have we climbed?"
"8 I think".
"Who cares! Just let me out of here."
10 mins of puffing and huffing all made it to the watch tower. AM, CS and JJ found some energy and took the steep stair to the top of the tower for a quick view of PJ and KL.
Whenever we stop for a breather the mosquitoes zoomed in on our exposed legs and arms.
...to be continue

The event was successfully completed and we were very lucky with the kind weather. The participants were:

Quek Kong
Yoke Meng
Siew Ik and Siew Har
Keng Joon and Peng
and myself.

Quek Kong came, stylo-mylo, with new trekking shoes and walking pole, which he gallantly lend to Siew Har throughout the whole trek.
Siew Har's shoe sole gave way just 15 minutes into our start. It just shows how often she uses her trek shoes.  And Peng came to the rescue - she actually carries a spare pair of shoes in her haversack! And what luck, they were of the correct size too! Could she be a magician able to pull out anything from her magic haversack?
Still ever the scout, be-prepared Yoke Meng, carries a haversack with water, slippers and ...... many more items he did not show us.
Keng Joon didn't fail to remind us that he is the youngest and fittest by running some parts of the way.

We spent much fellowship time at our two breaks that our second scheduled break (the ice kachang break) became our lunch time.  We also had to cancel our visit to the tree-top bridge and by the time we got back to the finish point, it must be about 2.30pm.

Next event:  Yoke Meng will be organising a swimming session at the Bedok Jetty. Warning - remember to keep you mouth shut, plenty of anglers there.

The following morning some of us met up at Yak Young's coffee shop for breakfast/lunch.

Those at Koh Yak Young's Coffee Shop

New Year Eve Makan Party@NJJ

31st Dec. 2008 was a nice cool evening. Although only 7 boys came together, it was good enough to warm up the night to welcome 2009. The food was plentiful and buffet spread was indecently. Each of us had more than a fairly large share. Our wives and other family members and friends were also adventurous in tucking in. How many kilos added to our body weight the next day is one thing for sure, no one will want to admit..........thh
